The interview

How were you introduced to CrossFit®?

I was introduced to CrossFit® when I was 16 years old. I was trying to cross train to be a better track athlete, but ended up seeing more potential in CrossFit® as my primary sport!

What motivated you to enter your first CrossFit® competition?

My first competition I did was just for fun! A big group from my gym was doing one, so I hoped in with the community. I ended up winning the scaled division & realized I wanted to take it more seriously!

Throughout your experience competing at the CrossFit® Games, what was your most memorable moment?

One of my favorite moments from the CrossFit® Games was the Deadlift ladder at the Ranch. I had just gotten nearly last place on the event prior, but did not let that bother me mentally & put that aside to win the deadlift. It was just a key moment that made me realize how important your mental approach is & to stay positive even after things don’t go the way you want.

How do you manage your personal life while training as a CrossFit® Pro athlete?

I think balance is so important in CrossFit®! When I am training, I am completely focused on CrossFit®. When I am outside of the gym, I do my best to not think about training to let my mind rest & be stress free. I’m thankful to train with an amazing group of friends that helps make training more fun.

What’s the biggest learning experience you’ve had?

The biggest learning experience I have had was getting cut in 2019 on the sprint event. I got disqualified because I had stepped on a line I wasn’t supposed to. I was so focused on NOT doing that, it was all I thought about. “Just don’t step on the line.” It ended up doing the reverse, and took up my entire headspace.

How does a typical training week looks like for you?

I typically do two sessions a day, 5 days a week. Those being typically about an hour piece in the morning & then a 3–5-hour training day in the afternoon. I fully rest one day, and then just move the body actively one day.

How do you personally integrate GOWOD into your preparation?

I always do GOWOD first thing in my first session to not only physically prepare my body, but also mentally prepare my mind for the day. The mobility sets me up for success in moving well & not feeling stiff during training.

How often do you work on your weaknesses and how do you hammer them?

I work a weakness nearly every day! But also depending on how my body is responding to it. As much as possible, without overdoing that’s specific area of my body.

What’s your goal for the current season?

My goal for this season is to #1 overcome my elbow injury and have a healthy, full functioning body for the season, and #2 make it my best season ever!

What would you recommend for the everyday athlete that wants to perform at the Open?

To the everyday athlete, I would say don’t put pressure on yourself! Have fun, and don’t stress if things don’t go according to your exact plan because they rarely do for anyone! Also, don’t compare yourself to others. Do your best, and strive to be better than YOU were yesterday.
